This set of reliquaries is from a body of current work entitled “Selling Faith.”
I am exploring in these sculptures the value of faith, an abstract concept placed on a tangible item. My art addresses the ways in which “precious” objects are obtained, stored, venerated and then often discarded.
I work with objets trouvés, creating a history, developing a title and then fabricating a reliquary to complement that history. My process mimics the centuries-old tradition of the Roman Catholic Church, manipulating humble materials into fanciful creations.
